Our History
Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church was established over a hundred years ago. In 1932 the church was destroyed by storm. Several men of the community helped to reconstruct the church in the original lot. The following individuals established the root of the church: Dave Washington, George and Henreta Washington and Family, Kitty and Henry Napolean. Wesley Chapel had faithful members that attended church Sunday School : Mollie Glover and Family, Jack and Lizzie Glover Family , Susie Axel Smith , Rev. Robert and Martha Lewis and Family, Rev. Jesse Lewis Family, Minnie Johnson, Carly Johnson, Madison and Josie Binkley, Rebecca Guy, Charlie Allen, Lizzie Binkley, Leah Jackson, Erma Collier, Alfred and Elsie Glover, Lizzie Austin, Lizzie Ford, and Linny Hines.
December 4, 2006, Pastor Purnell, and members of Wesley Chapel met to discuss building a new church. With the encouragement and support of Rev. Purnell and the faithful members funds began to come in. Our church has been blessed by many donations – large and small – that have continued to enrich the progress of our church.
Our church is incredibly grateful to all of those who donated their time, talents, and blessings to further the path of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
On May 9, 2014, Pastor Edward Glover was appointed the pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church by District Superintendent Terrance K. Hayes of the Victoria District – Southwest Texas Conference. Presently, Pastor Glover is continuing his studies at Perkins Seminary School of Theology in Lufkin, Texas.
Under the leadership of Pastor Glover, we have seen an increase of worship services from bimonthly to weekly service due to the increase of membership. Some of our outreach programs include visiting the sick and infirmed, feeding the community, sharing Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, and toys for the children at Christmas. We also sponsor an annual Bible School in the summer for the local children, which was hosted and taught by the ladies of the church.
